The Canadian Academy of Dental Health and Community Sciences, a division of the Canadian Academy of Dental Hygieneas (CADH) students are going into exam time! For a student facing exam time, having some techniques to implement for stress busters can go a long way to alleviate the tension and prepare you to pass those exams that you are facing.
AFacing exam time can be one of the most stressful times for students, but it doesn’t have to be that way. There are some things you can do to alleviate the tension and the headaches that go along with exam preparation. Here are just a few stress busters that will help you to enter exam time with confidence.
Avoid stressful people
ADid you know that the company you keep can dictate how you react to a stressful situation? It’s true. By mingling with friends and family that are stressed out themselves, it can increase your chances for being jittery and jumpy yourself. Avoid the people who have a negative outlook on exams and life in general, and you’ll be able to meet the next day with a much more cheery outlook.
Eat healthy and exercise
Exam time is not the time to neglect your body. As a matter of fact, eating certain foods can even lessen your stress. Do you like to snack while studying? Foods like oranges and blueberries which are rich in Vitamin C, brown rice which is high in fiber, or your green vegetables, which have potassium can have a calming effect on your nerves. These foods will not only satisfy your craving to snack, but calm your jittery nerves.
We’ve all heard that exercise goes hand in hand with eating healthy, right? Well, exercising can also go hand in hand with giving you needed breaks to refresh from the monotony and anxiety of long hours of studying. So my advice here is, if you have an exercise regimen, keep it up even during exam time. If you don’t have an exercise regimen, get up; go for a short walk. It will do wonders to clear your head and give you a new perspective on things when you hit the books again.
Say NO
What are you going to do if a fellow classmate pops his or her head in the door of your room and says, a?hey, we’re going out for a night out. Do you want to join us?” Your best bet is to just say a?no.a? Yes, it can be good to relax for awhile, but it can also take mega time that you may not be able to afford away from studying. Use your own good judgment and stay away from the crowd scene, especially where alcoholic beverages and other mind-altering threats can cloud your good sense when you need it most.
Believe in yourself
ATake heart with what Brad Henry once said, “Believe in yourself, and the rest will fall into place. Have faith in your own abilities, work hard, and there is nothing you cannot accomplish.” Ultimately, your success with not only studying for exams, but also your success with passing them with flying colors is all dependent on — YOU. Believe in yourself, be confident, and you’ll do just fine.
We wish the students of CADH the best in their exams and hope these stress busters come in handy!
