The first class to go through the new curriculum at CADH is currently in their final session, the Consolidation session. During this new session, students are working on refining their skills so they can enter the workforce with much confidence. The following are highlights of the studentsa accomplishments in this level:
a? Provision of complete client care, including documentation requirements, within 2 hours. This is a significant accomplishment because in previous levels, these students provided dental hygiene care within several appointments.
a? Conducting self-directed learning by working towards completion of the CDHO portfolio.
a? Compiling a student portfolio that will showcase attainment of program outcomes.
a? Providing mentorship to lower level students.
a? Engaging in service learning; providing dental hygiene care to the underserved, including health promotion, health education, and oral health screenings.
a? Preparing and delivering evidence-based table top presentations for the public, peers, and other professionals.
Students during this session have embraced the opportunities provided to them. Many have expressed a great interest in pursuing opportunities in public health as a result of some of the experiences they have gained over the session. As educators, we can only hope that all the educational opportunities we provide our students with have meaning and this session is providing just that for our students!
