Restorative Dental Hygiene Diploma

Take your Dental Hygiene Career to the Next Step
Weeknight and Weekend Classes Available

The Restorative Hygiene Program is a 22-week program that will prepare students to develop restorative and preventative skills. Students admitted to the program must be currently registered with the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario (CDHO).

The theoretical component of the program is designed to assist students in building on their current knowledge and skills as a dental hygienist by reviewing and enhancing their knowledge of dental anatomy, occlusion, pain management, health and safety measures, how to work in a collaborative oral health care team, recording keeping processes, the properties of dental materials, and how to place restorations.

The practical component of the program allows students to work collaboratively within an oral health care team to place and finish restorations using restorative materials that meet the needs of the client.

During the program, students will learn to:

  • Conduct an initial dental assessment and consult with dentists and restorative dental hygienists on patient care
  • Instruct patients on oral hygiene procedures
  • Perform the following restorative procedures:
    • place and finish amalgam
    • perform composite and temporary restorations
    • take final impressions
    • cement provisional restorations
