CADH Students of the New Curriculum!

AIn my last blog, I spoke to you about the students who were the first at CADH to go through the new curriculum. Lets bring you up to speed on their current progress!

One of the two key elements that the students have been working on are service learning, or engagement in learning where they engage not only in the formal learning process but also an associated practical experiences within the community on which they reflect and report.A CADH has been able to partner with community groups so its students can have opportunity to provide dental hygiene services to underserved populations. One of these partnerships is with the Health Missions Outreach (HMO). On June Saturday June 15, 2013, the Community Coordinator, Maria Castellano, oversaw 42 CADH students from all academic levels at the HMO clinic where, in small teams, they provided services such as cleanings, taking radiographs, health promotion, and health education.

The second key element students have been working on is developing a student portfolio that will showcase all of their accomplishments during the program. These portfolios will be authentic and individualized projects, demonstrating how each student, in their own words, through self-reflections, have attained the CADH program outcomes. Each student will present their work to their faculty and peers during the Week of July 1, 2013 while anticipating their graduation July 10, 2013.
